Toddies can be served hot or cold by using either hot or cold water
Dissolve sugar , add water in a small tumbler, put ice in the glass and add 1/2 gill of the required liquor
The hot Toddies are generally served with a slice of Lemon and in France they are called Grogs

Hot Apple Toddy

Strain the juice of a baked apple, some sugar and a a little hot water into a tumbler, add 3/4 gill of Apple Jack Brandy.
Fill up with boiling water and add grated nutmeg on top
